Meet the Faith on Fire Musicians:
Mimi & Rene AbadescoMimi and Rene Abadesco both started their music ministry during their elementary years back in the Philippines. They both accompanied Masses with the guitar, Rene in a parochial school in Davao City, and Mimi in an all-girls Catholic school in Quezon City until her senior year in high school. After moving to the United States in the mid 1980s, Rene resumed his music ministry in the US Navy by playing in weekend Masses for sea and shore duty stations. In 2005, with both their children in middle school, they joined forces and volunteered at St. Augustine in Oak Harbor, WA, and at St. Patrick in Fallon, NV.
Currently, they lead the Filipino choir that has been singing once a month since 2016 and during Filipino feast days at St. Augustine in Oak Harbor, WA. In 2021, they moved to St. Mary’s Anacortes where their ministry has been enriched by both traditional and contemporary Catholic music. Mimi and Rene also sing at St Paul Swinomish Native American parish in La Conner once a month, which they consider an honor.
Witnessing how much music enhances the liturgy has inspired Mimi and Rene to serve God as music ministers throughout their lives. “The Spirit sends us forth to serve and proclaim God’s Word.”Leanne Gettman
Leanne Gettman is a local cantor for many Skagit Valley parishes. She enjoys playing and singing many types of religious music, from chant to hymns, to praise and worship at Masses. She is a self-taught guitarist, pianist, and also plays the ukulele.
We need many hands to put on this event. If you can volunteer prior to and/or the weekend of the event, please email [email protected] and leave your name and contact info. Thank you!
To ensure the future of the Faith on Fire Family Weekend, we are seeking sponsors and individual donations to offset the cost of the Conference, including tents and facilities, speaker and musician stipends, meals, scholarships, travel, and keeping registration costs affordable for attendees.
As individuals, we are limited in resources; but as a group of disciples, we can do more, as in the beginning days of our Church. We know as Catholics when we give to organizations that do the work of the Lord, we individually share in the eternal benefits as well. In that spirit - no matter how you participate, time, talent, or treasure, you can be sure you are part of the great scheme of God’s plan to rescue souls.
Donations made to St. Mary Church and the Faith on Fire Family Weekend may be tax-deductible. St. Mary’s EIN# is 91-0976763
Thank you for your support!
The New Evangelization calls each of us to deepen our faith, believe in the Gospel message, and go forth to proclaim the Gospel. The focus of the New Evangelization calls all Catholics to be evangelized and then go forth and evangelize. {USCCB}
