Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or RCIA, is a process to bring willing adults into full communion with the Catholic Church. In this process we invite people to meet, know, and follow Jesus Christ. Our goal is to create disciples. A disciple is a person in love. In the case of RCIA, we want them to fall in love with Jesus. We hope to change what, or to whom, people give their hearts, how they spend their time, treasure, and talent.
The three goals of RCIA are:
- To educate participants about the Catholic Church
- To bring about a full conversion as a follower of Jesus Christ
- To become an active member of the St. Mary faith community
The RCIA program at St. Mary begins with an evening of inquiry in mid-July and another in mid-August. Classes begin the first Wednesday after Labor Day and continue until five weeks after Easter. Children seven years of age and older can also come into full communion with the Catholic Church through a similar program especially designed for them and scheduled to meet their needs.
